Infertility

Infertility - unable to conceive or get pregnant even after regular unprotected sexual intercourse for one year or more. Early treatment may be offered in case of age (> 35 years).

Treatment

  • Detailed history taking.
  • General physical examination.
  • Detect the cause. Treat men and women simultaneously.
  • Go with basic tests - AMH for women, semen analysis for men.

IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)

  • Procedure - IUI is an office procedure. No admission required. Low risk, no major harm.
  • Male semen after preparation is directly kept in uterine cavity.
  • Success rate - in normal fertile couple: 20-25%.
  • Cost - varies according to induction protocol.
  • Effective more in case of male factor infertility and cervical factor infertility in female.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

  • IVF is a process of fertilization, where ovum (egg) and sperm are combined outside the body in a laboratory for embryo formation. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus.
  • Success rate: from 35% to 70%.
  • Success rate mainly depends on quality of ovum and sperm, maternal age, and cause of infertility.
  • Success rate is good in tubal factor (block or damage) and male factor infertility (very low sperm count).
